Chelation Therapy And Heavy Metal Detoxification

Chelation therapy is a method for removing toxic heavy metals from our bodies and comes in two different forms - oral chelation therapy and IV (intravenous) chelation therapy. IV chelation therapy is administered by a doctor only and is most commonly used for removing certain kinds of plaque from our arteries to improve blood flow. The plaques in question are formed from a bond of calcium and various toxic heavy metals and specific chemicals are pumped into the blood to dissolve the plaque.

Oral chelation can be self administered because it doesn't require the supervision of a health professional. Arterial plaques can also be dissolved to a degree with oral chelation therapy but oral chelation is also excellent for overall toxic heavy metal detoxification. There are a variety of oral chelation supplements aimed at clearing specific toxic heavy metals form the body.

One very popular oral chelation agent is Chinese parsley (cilantro). In one study, scientists noticed that patients displayed an increased amount of mercury in their urine when they ate a soup that contained a lot of Chinese parsley. With further study scientists found that Chinese parsley in a liquid supplement form is extremely effective at mercury detoxification and is one of the best known methods for this purpose.

Consequently, liquid Chinese parsley has become a popular oral chelation supplement for people with amalgam fillings. Amalgam fillings contain mercury that leaches out into the body. Amalgam filling are actually banned in some countries but are still legal in the USA and some European countries.

EDTA is a big name in the world of chelation therapy and is the main solution used for IV chelation and is also available as an oral chelation supplement. EDTA is a synthetic amino acid that was created after world war one to treat soldiers who were exposed to poisonous gases containing toxic heavy metals. EDTA is effective at removing all 5 of the main toxic heavy metals - cadmium, lead, mercury, aluminum and arsenic.

Another very popular oral chelation supplement that compliments EDTA and Chinese parsley is chlorella, a species of blue/green algae. The type of fiber found in chlorella is ideally suited for absorbing toxic metals in the bowels so they can be eliminated once and for all. This kind of colon cleansing is an essential aspect of any heavy metal detox to ensure that the toxic metals don't make their way back into the bloodstream.

There is more that chlorella has to offer too! It is an excellent source of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is a chelation agent in its own right that is a powerful blood cleanser that helps to keep the cardiovascular system free of toxic metals.

Removing toxic heavy metals from our bodies is an important factor for our health. All of us have toxic metals in our cells to some degree or another because they are found in the air and our water systems. Non-organic farming, PVC plastic products, some paints and piping and many other products/processes contribute to toxic heavy metal pollution.
